LANGUAGE

English, being the official language of Australia, is the medium of instruction in learning institutions, so language barriers are limited. There are also English courses offered in various institutes, should you choose to improve your English skills.

ACCESS

Depending on where exactly in Australia you would like to pursue your education, there are many direct as well as transit flights from Port Moresby to various cities in Australia.

Closest access to Australia will be from Port Moresby to Cairns which will take about 1 hour 20 mins flight.

EDUCATION SYSTEM

School education is similar to PNG. Children usually start Pre School at 5 or 6 then primary school runs for 7/8 years. After 8 years, they go to senior secondary school, completing year 12 usually at the age of 18. Tertiary education includes both higher education (including universities) and vocational education training (VET).

ENGLISH TEST

Depends on your qualification background, institution and program you choose, you may be asked to provide an evidence of English Proficiency.

Alternatively, you may participate for English Language program provided by Tertiary Education Providers which may exempt an English proficiency test.

HEALTH INSURANCE

All international students who study in Australia must have a Health Insurance before applying for a Student visa. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is most common health insurance for international student to purchase.

WORK DURING YOUR STUDY

Most student visas allow you to work up to 40 hours every 2 weeks while your course is in session, and unrestricted hours during any scheduled course break. Australia has many part-time employment opportunities in a wide range of industries.

STUDENT VISA

When a student receive an offer from an institution applied, student must meet all the conditions to accept an offer and making a required deposit is one of the conditions. 

Once student fulfil the required conditions, student can apply for a Student visa.
